Dr. Mahdi Bashiri is an Associate Professor in Supply Chain Analytics at Analytics, Technology, and Operations Department (ATOD), Leeds University Business School. He is also a member of Centre for Decision Research (CDR). Prior to this, he had been a Co-lead of Sustainable Operations and Consumption research cluster, Associate head of school in Research, Course director of International Business Management at Coventry University.

Mahdi has over 19 years of academic experience with a particular interest in operations and supply chain management, operations research, transportation planning, and Heuristic & Matheuristic algorithms. He teaches operations management, supply chain management, Business and supply chain analytics, and operations research/decision making related modules at undergraduate, MSc, and PhD levels. He is interested in translating business and supply chain challenges into mathematical models, with a focus on developing algorithms to solve these problems more efficiently. This approach aims to identify optimal solutions, enabling decision-makers—including public and private policymakers, as well as business owners—to make more impactful decisions.

Mahdi has published more than 100 academic articles, including high quality journals such as European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), Computers and Operations Research (CAOR), Transportation Research Part E and Part D, OMEGA The international journal of Management Science, International Journal of Production Economics (IJPE), Annals of Operations Research (ANOR), International Journal of Production Research (IJPR), Journal of Operations Research Society (JORS), etc.

Dr Bashiri is an editorial advisory board of the Transportation Research Part E journal since 2022. And also is an active reviewer for EJOR, CAOR, TRE, OMEGA, ANOR, IJPE, IJPR, OR Spectrum, etc.

Supervision

He has successfully supervised more than 10 PhD students, and examined over 10 PhDs in different countries. Mahdi is accepting PhD students and is interested in supervising topics related to the above areas using operations research and decision making techniques. Students are also welcome to propose their own topics and discuss them with Mahdi. He also welcomes visiting PhD students or researchers.
